Define the scope of the SOC 2 assessment by identifying the systems and services relevant to the trust service criteria (security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy) that you want to include in the audit.

Develop policies and implement controls

Create and document policies, procedures, and controls to address each of the selected trust service criteria. These should cover areas such as access control, data protection, incident response, and monitoring.

Put in place the controls outlined in your policies and procedures. This may involve implementing technical solutions, configuring systems, and training employees.

Duration: 1 month to 9 months

Post Audit

The auditor will conduct the SOC 2 audit, which typically involves reviewing documentation, interviewing employees, and testing the effectiveness of controls. This may include onsite visits and remote assessments.

Remediate Findings and SOC 2 Report

Address any findings or deficiencies identified during the audit by implementing corrective actions and improvements to your controls and processes.

After successfully completing the audit and remediation process, the auditor will issue a SOC 2 report. There are two types of SOC 2 reports: Type I, which evaluates the suitability of the design of controls at a specific point in time, and Type II, which evaluates the effectiveness of controls over a specified period (usually a minimum of six months).
